Independent alternative sourcing

Worldwide steel buildings alternatives for factory quote comparison

KeystoneAxis Sourcing is an independent sourcing partner for business buyers who start with a worldwide steel buildings search and need a comparable brief. This desk does not claim authorized dealer status, and it is not affiliated with worldwide steel buildings. Original-brand supply is outside the work.

A usable request names the occupancy, the footprint, the design criteria, the authority having jurisdiction, the quantity and the destination before any unit price is discussed. One blank worksheet, not a priced building, can hold a 40 ft by 60 ft footprint, a 16 ft eave height, 20 ft bay spacing and a 40 ft clear span, then leave wind speed in mph, wind exposure category, ground snow load in psf, design live load, design dead load and seismic design category empty until the project team fills them. Name the primary frame, purlin spacing, girt lines and whether the enclosure is an insulated metal panel.

Record these six items before quotations are lined up.

  1. Use and occupancy
  2. Footprint, eave height, bay spacing, clear span
  3. Wind speed, ground snow load, seismic design category
  4. Project location and code jurisdiction
  5. Quantity of buildings or modules
  6. Destination and requested delivery timing

Lock the frame before the price

Ask each supplier to name the primary frame, the secondary framing, and whether the proposal uses built-up plate, hot-rolled or cold-formed members. A clear span and a multi-bay layout do not share the same column line, so a single square-foot figure hides that difference.

Bay spacing, eave height and the design live load belong in the same note. If those values are still open, mark them open instead of letting a catalog span stand in for the site.

Keep four scopes on separate lines

Shell, delivered, installed and turnkey are not interchangeable totals. A shell may stop at the primary frame, purlins, girts and roof and wall sheets. Delivered adds freight to a named destination. Installed adds a crew and a crane plan. Turnkey still needs a written list of foundation, utilities and interior work.

Freight, tax, duties and optional mezzanines stay as their own lines so a lower building number is not compared with a broader package.

Document stack for loads, welds and jurisdiction notes

Ask which document covers the quoted system

IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, AWS D1.1, IAS AC472 and ISO 9001 are names to request against the quoted system, the plant and the project jurisdiction. A homepage badge is not evidence that the alternative in front of you carries that document.

KeystoneAxis Sourcing organizes the questions. The buyer and the project professionals accept the technical and commercial result.

Send the brief before you compare quotations

Include product format, quantity, destination and the shell or turnkey boundary. Optional budget should state the currency and whether the figure is per building or for the whole order.
